Martial Arts List

Before choosing a martial arts sport, it's a good idea too make a martial arts list to allow yourself the option of checking out different ones before making a decision. Making a martial arts list will help you see all of the different activities that exist beyond judo, karate, and kung fu, which is often the extent of knowledge that many of us have. Until you begin making a list of all the martial arts, your knowledge is rather limited, especially when it comes to the history of the sport. You want to know as much about the martial arts as you can before you become involved in just one aspect. Knowing the history and origin of each one helps you understand how each one relates to the other in terms of an endurance sport and competitive activity.

Though many of us don't think of boxing, wrestling, archery, and fencing as among the martial arts, they are indeed on the list of martial arts. We often think of the martial arts in terms of Asian activities such as karate, judo, Tae Kwon Do, and other activities rather than those we know in North America and Europe. Making a list of all the martial arts in the world will show you how activities tie in together throughout the world and what activities are prominent in certain regions. We also tend to think of martial arts as a male sport, but when you look around at the number of female wrestlers, that in itself shows you that the sport is definitely one enjoyed by male and female alike. The difference is one may see a female, especially in North America, partaking of the sport for as a self-defense mechanism than a competitive sport, whereas in other countries, there is equal participation by male and female in the competitions.

In addition to making a list of all martial arts, make a list of the ancient martial arts to compare with what is still being performed today. What purpose will that serve? It is another way to teach a newcomer to the martial arts how everything blends together and allow him a better opportunity to make a decision about what is right for him or where his interest lies. Making a list of martial arts exercises is also a good idea because during and in between your training you will have to do certain exercises to help build your speed and endurance levels. Of course, these exercises will vary according to your chosen activity, and should be reflected on yours lists of the martial arts.
