Martial Arts Techniques

When you decide to become involved in the martial arts, it's imperative that you understand the different martial arts techniques of your chosen activity. Do not assume that even if two activities appear to be similar, the techniques are going to be the same. If you want to succeed, you have to learn the martial arts technique for your chosen activity. For example, martial arts kicking techniques will differ between judo and kung fu because the movements and purposes are different.

Martial art techniques are important in maintaining the level of competence as well as the competitive edge that is required to win a competition. For that reason it's important to be sure that the trainer you choose knows how to teach martial arts techniques that are unique to the activity. That means choosing one who specializes, not a school that teaches all of the various forms of the martial arts with no specialty trainer. One cannot generalize in the martial arts and be efficient. That doesn't mean that your trainer may not have knowledge in the different martial arts sparring techniques, for instance, but he should not be teaching more than one activity at the same time—not to new participants anyway.

One of the most important things that you need to learn is deadly martial arts techniques. All of the martial arts have its own set of moves that can be deadly, whether it's those from Asia and the Orient or those from North America. Wresters, for example, can do serious damage to one another if they use certain holds in the wrong way. Boxers can cause fatal injury by punching in certain areas about the face. It's important that you know what these deadly techniques are so that you can avoid using them and block them if your opponent tries one of them on you.

You can locate the martial arts techniques online, but you still have to be able to perform them in order to understand the implications of each one. For example, one cannot watch someone online in a video about karate and go right into a competition knowing what to do. You must not only see someone perform the technique, you must also be able to practice it. That makes the idea of online martial arts training unrealistic because you still need to have a way to practice. That doesn't mean that you can't participate in online training, but you have to understand that you will need training beyond that of the online community.
